How To Be Saved
Start a new walk with Christ.
As human beings, we prefer to be in-charge of our circumstances and have a clear view of the future, whether it’s making plans for an upcoming vacation or saving money to build a large nest egg. Unfortunately, life typically has other plans and we soon find ourselves losing all control of the situation.
Today, the future is more uncertain than ever before. Illness, job losses and questions about financial security abound. This uncertainty is no doubt leaving many feeling scared or anxious and looking desperately for hope. Some turn to material objects or other people to provide a means of escape and comfort, but the respite each one brings is only temporary. The struggle to find hope is never-ending. Or is it?
The Bible is clear—you don’t have to worry about what the future holds for yourself. You can know for certain that when you die that you will spend eternity in Heaven and obtain everlasting peace by trusting in Christ and accepting Him as your Lord and Savior. This is explained in the “Romans Road,” a series of verses located in the book of Romans.
There are four verses (or “stops”) along the Romans Road, and below we examine each one.
Stop 1: Romans 3:10
There is no one righteous, not even one.
The Romans Road begins with the foundational truth that everyone is in need of Christ because we all have sinned and fallen short of God’s standard of righteousness. It doesn’t matter if you’ve only told a single lie or gone so far as to commit murder—all sin is terrible in God’s eyes, and it needs to be confronted if you are to understand God’s gospel message and attain for yourself salvation.
Stop 2: Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Sin is serious. Prior to Adam and Eve sinning against God in the Garden of Eden, death was a foreign concept. After they sinned, however, the curse of sin became very real, and as a result, we all will meet with death one day. If you do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior, you will be destined to eternal punishment in Hell after you die.
The good news, though, is that God loves you so much that he has offered a means of escape from the eternal torment of Hell, and best of all, it’s freely available to all who want it. We just have to look no further than God’s only son, Jesus Christ.
Stop 3: Romans 5:8
But God proves His own love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
God loves everyone—no matter how wicked we may be, or what we have done in our lives. If you closely read the account of creation in the Book of Genesis, you may notice that while God spoke many elements of creation into existence, such as the seas, foliage and a variety of animals, mankind was different. God literally sculpted mankind out of the dust of the earth.
Think about how when you were little, and were so proud of something you may have created, such as a drawing. God feels the same way about each of us, and he proved it by sending his only son, Jesus Christ, to die for us so that we may obtain for ourselves everlasting peace and eternal life after death. That’s true love!
Stop 4: Romans 10:9-13
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
This final stop on the Romans Road explains how you can begin life anew by centering your life around Christ. It doesn’t matter your age or nationality—if you truly believe that Jesus Christ is Lord of all, the sinless Son of God who died for your sins and rose again and are willing to confess to God that you are a sinner and in need of Him, then you can receive God’s free gift of eternal life today!
A New Start
If you would like to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior and become a Christian, you can pray a prayer similar to this:
Dear God, I know I am a sinner and have rebelled against You in many ways. I believe Jesus died for my sins and only through faith in His death and resurrection can I be forgiven. I now turn from my sin and ask Jesus to forgive me and come into my life as my Savior and Lord. From this day forward, I will choose to follow Jesus. Thank You, Lord, for loving me and forgiving me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
By praying this prayer—and by being sincere in doing so—you’ve expressed to God remorse for your previous life of sin and desire to begin following Christ anew. You are now a Christian!
